The complete quick start for Governor Field Unit 0.9.9. Choose the section for your computer.
START HERE
• Download only your computer’s ZIP. Both Mac and Windows are included. • Extract the ZIP before installing. Quit your DAW and other audio apps. • Governor is an AUDIO EFFECT: put it on a track carrying sound. • No license key or activation is required for this release.
MAC — INSTALL
1. Double-click the Mac ZIP to extract it. 2. Open Governor-Field-Unit-0.9.9-Mac.pkg in the extracted folder. 3. If macOS blocks it: dismiss the warning → System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway → confirm Open. macOS 12: System Preferences → Security & Privacy → General. 4. Complete the installer. Enter your Mac administrator password if asked. 5. Restart your DAW and rescan plugins. Load Governor as a VST3 effect.
MAC — QUARANTINE FIX (ONLY IF BLOCKED)
This release is unsigned and not Apple-notarized. macOS may quarantine an official download. Use these steps only for your trusted Governor copy, not for a malware-detection warning or a managed-computer restriction. Installer still blocked? 1. Open Terminal (Applications → Utilities → Terminal). 2. Type the following, followed by ONE SPACE; do not press Return yet: xattr -d com.apple.quarantine 3. Drag the extracted Governor .pkg from Finder into Terminal. This inserts its exact path. Press Return, then open the .pkg again. Installed, but Governor is blocked or fails the DAW scan? Quit the DAW. In Terminal, run ONLY the line for the format you use: VST3 (recommended): sudo xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/Governor Field Unit.vst3" Audio Unit (AU): sudo xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/Governor Field Unit.component" Standalone: sudo xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Governor Field Unit.app" Press Return after the command. If asked, type your Mac login password and press Return; Terminal shows no dots or characters while you type. No output usually means success. “No such xattr” means quarantine is already absent. “No such file” means that format is not at that path; check installation instead of changing the command to a broader folder. Restart the DAW and rescan. These commands affect only the named Governor files. Do not disable Gatekeeper or remove quarantine from your whole disk. If a warning persists, stop and send support the exact message.
WINDOWS — INSTALL
1. Right-click the Windows ZIP → Extract All. 2. Open Governor-Field-Unit-0.9.9-Windows-x64.exe from the extracted folder. 3. If SmartScreen says “Windows protected your PC”: choose More info → Run anyway, only for your trusted official download. This installer is not publisher-signed. Do not disable Defender or Smart App Control. 4. Follow setup. Keep VST3 selected; standalone is optional. 5. Restart the DAW and rescan plugins. If Run anyway is unavailable or malware is reported, contact support.
FIND GOVERNOR IN YOUR DAW
FL Studio: Options → Manage plugins → Find installed plugins. If a scan previously failed, enable “Rescan plugins with errors”. Load Governor Field Unit in a MIXER EFFECT SLOT, not as an instrument. Other DAWs: enable VST3 scanning, rescan, and insert it as an audio effect. You do not need to open the standalone app to use the plugin. NO SOUND? • Play audio through the track. Start with INIT and adjust MIX. • Check track routing, mute/bypass states and the audio device. • Standalone: select input/output devices and feed it an input signal. • Use headphones with a microphone to prevent feedback. • Enable DAW plugin delay compensation; processing adds latency.
RECORD YOUR RESULT
Press PERFORM to record processed audio; press again to stop. Drag the finished take from DRAG AUDIO TO DAW onto your timeline. Mac recordings: ~/Music/Governor/Performances.
COMPATIBILITY & LOCATIONS
Mac: macOS 12+, Intel or Apple Silicon. Windows: Windows 10+, x64. No mobile, ChromeOS or Linux version. VST3 is recommended; AU is included on Mac, but AU host testing is still in progress. Mac VST3/AU/app locations are listed in the commands above. Mac documentation: /Library/Application Support/Governor/Documentation Windows VST3: C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\Governor Field Unit.vst3 Windows standalone: Start menu.
